Graduate Teaching Resources

Teaching skills are essential leadership skills that prepare students for success in any career, whether it involves teaching students in the class room, or leading a research team.

Recognizing the importance of Teaching skills for an academic career, the Department of Plant Biology fosters and supports graduate students' dedication to teaching. To qualify for teaching, all graduate students must take the Graduate Seminar for Teaching and Laboratory Assistants (GRSC 7770). In addition to fulfilling their teaching requirements (see M.S. Requirements and Ph.D. requirements) many graduate students choose to pursue additional training, e.g. the Interdisciplinary Certificate in University Teaching and/or the Teaching Portfolio Certificate, both offered through the UGA Graduate School and supported by the Center for Teaching and Learning. The Department of Plant Biology also offers courses to strengthen teaching skills, including a Teaching Internship in Biological Sciences (PBIO 7360), Special Teaching Projects In Plant Biology (PBIO 7510), and Seminar in Teaching Biology (PBIO/BIOL 8010).
