Image: The Department of Plant Biology at the University of Georgia (plantbio.uga.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in collections-based research focused on plant diversity, ecology, evolution, and/or conservation to begin Aug 1, 2023 at the level of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant will also serve as Curator of the University of Georgia Herbarium [GA], one of the largest herbaria in the southeastern United States with > 230,000 vascular plant specimens. Collections-based research foci could include, but are not limited to: plant conservation, plant responses to climate change, plant-fungal interactions, plant biogeography, the ecological impact of invasive plants, crop-wild relatives and plant domestication, plant-centered data science, ethnobotany, and systematics and evolution. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration exist with the GA Museum of Natural History (naturalhistory.uga.edu), the State Botanical Garden (botgarden.uga.edu), and plant science faculty across departments and colleges (plantcenter.uga.edu). UGA provides excellent research infrastructure including extensive greenhouses, the Georgia Genomics and Bioinformatics Core, a Microscopy Core, and the Georgia Advanced Computing Resource Center. Competitive applicants will have a strong record of research productivity, demonstrate a well-developed research plan, and exhibit a commitment to inclusive teaching/mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A PhD (or equivalent) in plant biology or a related field is required at the time of appointment. 1+ year of postdoctoral experience and prior success utilizing and/or managing herbarium/museum collections is highly desirable.
