We are Hiring an Assistant Professor in Plant Synthetic Biology!

The University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Plant Synthetic Biology or Bioengineering, beginning August 1st, 2024, at the level of Assistant Professor. This is an interdisciplinary position with a joint appointment in the Department of Plant Biology (plantbio.uga.edu) and the Institute of Bioinformatics (iob.uga.edu). The successful candidate will use combined experimental and computational approaches to engineer plants, providing solutions to real-world problems. Research topics may include but are not limited to: genomic manipulation of cells, tissues, or whole plants, understanding and modifying organismal functions, improving plant performance, or reprogramming plants for novel traits with added values. There are outstanding opportunities for collaboration with faculty in the Plant Center, Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, Institute of Plant Breeding, Genetics & Genomics and other units with deep expertise in basic and applied plant sciences.

Competitive applicants will have a strong record of research accomplishments and productivity, demonstrate a well-developed research plan, and exhibit a commitment to inclusive teaching/ mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels. A PhD (or equivalent) in plant biology, bioinformatics, or a related field is required at the time of appointment; 1+ year postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.
