Postdoctoral Research Associate Burke Lab Email: jjb67768@uga.edu Lab Website: http://www.theburkelab.org/ Lab: Burke Lab Biography I am an evolutionary biologist with a keen interest in the field of plant morphology. I am particularly fascinated by the genetic, environmental, and ecological factors driving the astonishing diversity of flowers and inflorescences🌻🌸. During my undergraduate and graduate studies, I employed various comparative phylogenetic methods to understand the diversification and evolution of the carrot family (Apiaceae). My focus was on traits crucial for taxonomy, including those related to fruits, pollen, and inflorescence architecture. As a postdoctoral researcher, I have transitioned to studying the Asteraceae family, which is not only closely related to Apiaceae but is also the largest family of flowering plants. Research Research Areas: Evolutionary Biology Research Interests: As a member of the Burke Lab at UGA, I am using comparative genomics and transcriptomics, along with an array of other techniques, to better understand the evolution of the capitulum. This unique inflorescence, characteristic of the sunflower family (Asteraceae), presents intriguing questions about plant development and diversification.
