Image: Happy Earth Day from the Plant Biology Department! For Earth Day we celebrate the important roles that plants and fungi play in supporting our planet and a healthy environment. From producing oxygen and providing food to taking up CO2 and regulating the climate, plants are critical in every aspect of our lives. Fungi play key roles in recycling nutrients on our planet and they also provide us with important medicines to fight diseases. As a department, we are at the forefront of plant and fungal research and contribute to a greater understanding of the role that plants and fungi play in the natural world. This year's Earth Day theme, "Invest in our planet!", is a call to action for us all to invest in green technologies and in our understanding of the natural world. Happy Earth Day!
