Image: Congratulations to Douda! Douda, Associate Professor in Plant Biology, was recognized with the UGA research medal for her distinct and exceptional research. Her laboratory discovered that old oak trees harbor Candida albicans, a fungus which is responsible for potentially lethal yeast bloodstream infections in humans. The discovery that wild plant environments serve as reservoirs for a common fungal pathogen of humans has an extraordinary impact and significance to her field of study. Douda was recognized at the 2022 Research Awards on April 21, along with several other Plant Biology faculty who were recognized for being elected AAAS fellows over the last few years, including John Burke, Katrien Devos, Lisa Donovan, Jim Leebensmack, and Kathrin Stanger-Hall.
