Biochemistry and Physiology

Biochemical and physiological processes determine how living cells, tissues and organs function and ultimately impact the survival of the whole organism. At the cellular level our research includes cell-cell recognition, communication between microorganisms and their plant and animal hosts, and how cell walls are synthesized and control the growth and shape of plants. At the organismal level we study growth-defense trade-offs and how plants adapt to changing environments.
